Rain or shine, I’m yearning for these:
anyone fancy getting yours truly an early bday present? xxxxxxxxxxxxo
P.S. UK6

My apologies to all you out there who may be coming back to the same stale blog page for the past week. I truly am sorry!
I’ve been back in swinging London town (literally in some cases, ahem - more on that later) for about a month now and I’ve had LOADS going on.
It’s been more than a year since I’ve lived in this brilliant city and I’ve missed it dearly. Blighty is feeling different - more comfortable and definitely less stressful than before.
Why is that? I was pondering that while I walked into work this morning. That’s right - from my new residence I can actually walk to the studio I’m working from this summer. Ok, so that’s reason number uno why I’m less stressed.
I no longer need to take an hour long tube ride into an office every morning. London transport is amazing - you can go anywhere, subway stations at every corner, night buses when the tubes stop running. Great. But, catching a train during the morning or early evening commute is disasterous and will have you holding on to your sanity as tightly as the stranger next to you as the packed train rocks violently towards your destination.
Ah, Bakerloo line, I miss you not.
I think my contentment whilst walking down Whitechapel High Street every morning is apparent to all passersby. Case in point: I’m actually asked for directions. Do I look like I know where I’m going? Do I look like a friendly stranger who can help? The answer is yes! I’m asked at least once a week how to get somewhere and of all those times I (sort of) knew where they needed to be. Success!
If someone were to ask me how to get from the CN Tower to the lake front in Toronto I would probably stare at them blankly, blink a couple times, then perhaps pretend I’m a tourist and tell them I was just about to ask them the same question. But the truth is, no one would ask me because I look just as lost as they do.
Shameful, but true.
I definitely feel like a different person than I did a year ago. A lot has changed in my life and I feel older (in a good way!).
Discovering London for the first time was splendid - exciting and scary and lovely. But, now that I know my way around, know people in the city, have gotten over my Oxford Street obsession and understand the difference between gas ovens vs. electric- I’m a lot happier, a lot more fulfilled, and even more excited for the future - with better meals on the table.

Lately I’ve been noticing a shift in the music industry, specifically for female artists.
A few years ago the charts were inundated with gorgeous, plastique girls who looked absolutely stunning on camera but whom were manufactured so heavily it was unclear whether or not they could actually carry a tune.
They had the moves, the money, the famous producer, the pretty back-up dancers, but they were lacking something vital - they were totally uncool.
Pour example: Britney Spears. Remember when she first came out? Now, I’ll admit I liked her music. It was catchy! Hit Me Baby One More Time? Classic. But was it cool? No. Was she nice to look at? Yes. She was a success.
It wasn’t until she went completely bonkers that she started to gain a bit of cool cred.
Nowadays we are seeing stronger females who understand the art of music, who embrace their own quirky styles and run with it no matter what the critics think… and they don’t need to marry Kevin Federline, have babies and shave their heads to start making better music .
Luckily, the critics are loving this new breed of female, as am I.
Remember when Mandy Moore released her first single way-back-when? Ouch. It was actually painful for me. Bleached blonde pre-teen singing about candy and love. The bleach didn’t totally brainwash her, thank goodness. She ditched her record label and started writing her own music, which is actually really good.
She’s now a brunette with a mildly successsful recording career - and she married Ryan Adams. She embraced her inner cool.
Some more examples of my favourite females - Elly Jackson of La Roux, Florence from Florence and the Machine, LadyHawke and let’s not forget, Lady Gaga.
These are not barbie dolls. But they are totally cool. They have a wicked sound and the best part, they created that sound themselves. They should be part of the successful side of the music industry - and they are.
Let’s hear it for ‘em! I hope this trend is here to stay.

I tend to steer clear of too much colour. Not sure why? Maybe it’s because my red head is generally all the colour my outfits require.
But there is something about the new collection from Pendleton and Opening Ceremony that is making me wanna sing a rainbow.
The two have joined forces for their 2009 fall collections, due to hit stores this August. The end product is loads of brilliant coats and sweaters that I’m majorly coveting.
In case you’re not sure who in the fashion world Pendleton or Opening Ceremony is, allow me to fill you in.
Pendleton is a fairly conversative family-owned and operated American design house known for dressing corporate women. Not that exciting - but it’s their use of Native American prints that truly sets them apart.
Opening Ceremony provides the edge in this collaboration. The company amalgamates established brands with emerging fashion designers and displays the end product in their galleries and showrooms across the United States and online.
Pretty cool.
This warm coat will look gorgeous hanging in my closet come winter.

Tucked on a side street beside a very busy part of London (not counting Oxford Street, eep!) is a little place called Proud Central - a fantastic gallery that I only just discovered this past weekend.
Thanks to my darling J, who lucky for me loves an iconic woman or two, I was introduced to this fabulous spot on Saturday. The gallery is now showing the Sam Shaw Collection, which delves into the world of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe through photographs during the peak of their popularity (although, did that spotlight ever really fade?).
I’m fascinated by old Hollywood glamour. As I type this Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong are playing on my Spotify. So, needless to say, I was pretty excited to view the collection.
Both of these women were incredibly magnetic, but I have to say, Marilyn steals my heart every time. Her image was, and still is, so dynamic and appealing. She played it up for the camera, which is probably why her photographs take centre stage at this particular exhibition.
The age old question every glam girl should ponder is - am I a Marilyn or am I an Audrey?
However tragic her life may have been, I would say I’m a Marilyn.
J agrees. Bless him.
If you’re in the area, go! … and if you’re in the area, why haven’t you contacted me yet? Let’s take the town!

It’s the hottest new style blog and it was created not only from a love of fashion, but for love of a girl whose distinctive ensembles caught the attention and imagination of her adoring boyfriend, Joe.
The girl, Katie, tasked with the challenge of wearing a new outfit every day for one year, is captured on camera each day by her bf - the ultimate modern day love letter.
Currently the couple is on holiday in Mexico, but the site is still growing strong. Last week the site was featured in Grazia magazine and received a spotlight shout-out from online retailers ASOS yesterday. Joe is making his Katie a wanted woman in the fashion world!
Her outfits are quirky and colourful and I can definitely see myself becoming glued to this site over the next days, weeks and months. You should sign up too.
Let’s enjoy discovering What Katie Wore together, shall we?
