Get dirty.

I’ve been talking about starting a garden for many a summer.

This year I decided to actually do it. All talk and no action does not get the (garden) hoe dirty, or so some sort of similar saying goes.

I bought the dirt, seeds, gloves and I got busy. So far I’ve planted lettuce, cucumber and radish seeds as well a blueberry bush and some sweet pea flowers.

I felt supreme satisfaction and was excited to hopefully see some sprouts, but after three days, my garden looked more like a fresh grave than a produce playground.

Well, I’m happy to say that this week while I was watering that mud hole, I noticed some very distinct lettuce sprouts. They look more like tiny four leaf clover patches at this point, but pretty soon I’m going to be making a salad to die for. Oh yes.

Once I get my camera back in order I’ll take a photo for you to feast your eyes on.

Want some gardening tips? Come ‘ere.

Serenity Now!

Since insomnia has blissfully taken over my nightlife, I am constantly looking for things to tire myself out.

Pour example, flipping through one of my dad’s golfing magazines, consistently refreshing my twitter feed when I fully know everyone else is sleeping and not tweeting, reading the instructions on the back of my shampoo bottle… the list goes on.

Rarely do I reach for the remote. But this evening, just for kicks - I did just that.

I saddled up for a mind-numbing channel surfing experience. Infomercials, show me what you got.

But instead of the typical magical Juicer Pilates Miracle Hair Growth for Men infomercial lulling me into my usual light sleep filled with dreams about french poodles, I found myself watching the most terrifying film EVER.

Seriously, you ever want to intensify a sleepless evening, rent this movie…

I’m f-ed for life.

Merci Beaucoup.

Two ingredients that should not mix

Anything Jamie Oliver touches turns to delicious, but I heard a JO rumour today that turned my stomach.

Apparently the object of my taste bud’s desire is teaming up with host extrada-derriere Ryan Seacrest for a new television series based in the ‘fattest’ American cities.

The two will give the cities a healthy makeover, teaching families how to make smarter, healthier food choices.

The episodes will somewhat mirror Oliver’s original UK series Jamie’s School Dinners.

The series will air on ABC and be backed by Seacrest’s production company.

According to Seacrest, he experienced the chubby side of childhood and is inspired by Oliver’s work with families in the UK.

I hope my love for Jamie will balance out my extreme distaste for Ryan.

One thing’s for sure though. The hair styling budget on this show is going to be astronomical.

Trash talkin’ my city? I don’t think so.

I adore London. I know that won’t come as a surprise to many people who read my blog and know me well.

I yearn for it. I love that city more than peanut butter.

Yes, riding the tube frequently will give you black boogies. Yes, there are about a trillion tourists.

But living on my own in London is by far the most exhilarating thing in my life. Every day is an adventure.

That’s why when I stumbled across a Trip Advisor survey of the best and worst cities in Europe, I was truly appalled.

The Big Smoke went up in flames.

Get this:

London was voted one of the dirtiest, most expensive, most over-rated, worst dressed cities filled with the rudest people and the worst cuisine in all of Europe.

Rubbish!

London is one of the most exciting cities in the world, filled with lots of cheap (sometimes free) and fun things to do every single day. The shopping is plentiful and fabulous. I can learn to live with a full English breakfast. And, upon telling Londoners I was Canadian and not American, I was treated with the utmost respect.

Trip Advisor, your survey is completely out of whack.

Boo.

The Fashion Show premiere

I was nervous when I heard Project Runway was leaving the Bravo channel. It is the only television show I actually consider to be a must-not-miss.

I was relieved to hear the fabulous show had found a new home on the (slightly less glam) Lifestyle channel.

But how will Bravo fill the fashionably creative void? With Isaac Mizrahi, that’s how!

The iconic New York designer and creative director of Liz Claiborne will premiere his new series The Fashion Show tomorrow evening on Bravo.

Along with co-hosts Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child fame and Fern Mallis of IMG Fashion, Mizrahi will put 15 contestants to the test, all competing for $125,000 prize and the chance to go retail with their designs.

The exciting part is that unlike Runway, the contestants already have established lines and celebrity clientele. So hopefully the first few episodes won’t consist of just weeding out the obviously weak.

Instead, a hot competition should kick right off. Goody!

Tune in with me tomorrow at 10 p.m. on Bravo.

Scratch & Sniff

It’s a little weird, but Revlon has just come out with a series of nail enamel’s that smell like the fruit aisle of your local grocer.

I actually really hate the smell of regular old nail polish, so I might have to rush out and get a bottle or two today.

They’re limited edition items, so you might want to get your hot little paws on them soon too.

There are lots of colours/scents to choose from including ‘Pretty in Papaya’, ‘Raspberry Rapture’, ‘Coconut Crush’ and ‘Not So Blue-Berry’.

I just hope I don’t start biting my nails again.

Mighty Models: Met Gala highlights

All hail the Sultans of Style.

The theme ‘the model as muse’ echoed throughout last evening’s annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. Models, celebrities, designers, oh my!

Chaired by the legendary Kate Moss, Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs and… Justin Timberlake (?), the evening was an extraordinary spectacle of who’s who and who’s wearing what.

And what would the night be without a little drama? Designer Azzedine Alaia was snubbed from the event, keeping notorious cover girls and Alaia muses Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour and Linda Evangelista (and four other models) away from the red carpet.

Alaia or no Alaia, the evening was dazzling.

I’m collecting my fav fashion moments from the evening. Stay tuned…

Stranger Style

People are interesting.

Who doesn’t love a solid afternoon of people-watching?

Now people-watching has turned into style scoping, and for those who’d rather stare at people (and their outfits) without the inevitable awkward glare back, then check this excellent site:

Met Gala!

The crimson carpet for the 2009 Met Costume Institute Gala (read: the Academy Awards for Fashion) will be unfurled in all its glorious splendor this evening.

Stay tuned tomorrow for my pick of the red rug.
